Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy

What this policy covers

Some state laws, including Washington's My Health My Data Act and similar laws in Nevada and Connecticut, treat information about your skin, hair or body as "consumer health data", even when it's about beauty rather than medicine. This policy explains how Truemuse Incorporated ("Truemuse") handles that kind of information. It adds to our Privacy Policy, which covers everything else.

What we collect and why

  • Skin type and hair type on your profile (for example "sensitive" or "curly"), only if you choose one and agree to it being stored. We use it to fill in your review form and tailor what you see.
  • Skin type on a review, only if you choose one and agree to it being shown. It's published with your review so other shoppers can see who it worked for.
  • Skin or hair details you type into Lumi, such as a concern you'd like help with. We use them only to answer that question. Lumi conversations aren't saved to your account.
  • Scan photos are read to identify the product and then deleted. Scan reads packaging only and never analyzes faces or skin.

We don't use this information for advertising, we don't use it to decide the order of the products you see, and we never use location to track visits to health-related places.

Where it comes from

Only from you, through the Truemuse website and apps. We don't buy it or get it from anyone else.

Who we share it with

We don't sell consumer health data, and we don't share it with affiliates.

  • Other shoppers: your skin type is shown with your review only if you agree when you write it
  • Service providers that work for us: our website hosting and database providers store your profile, and our AI provider processes what you type into Lumi to answer you. They may use it only to provide their service to Truemuse
  • Brands: never. Brands see your review, but we don't send them your profile
  • When the law requires it, for example to respond to a valid court order

Your rights

You can also make a request on Your Privacy Choices or by emailing contact@truemuse.us. We'll reply within 45 days. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision, and if your appeal is denied you can contact your state attorney general. We'll never treat you differently for using these rights.

  • See it: ask whether we have your consumer health data, get a copy, and get a list of the third parties we've shared it with
  • Delete it: remove your skin or hair type from your account page at any time, or delete your whole account
  • Withdraw consent: set your skin and hair type to "Prefer not to say", or edit a review to remove your skin type. We'll stop using it straight away

Keeping it safe

Only the Truemuse staff who need it can access consumer health data, it's encrypted in transit, and we keep it only until you remove it or delete your account.
